Wow it's weird to be typing 2018... anyway, we have a new theme with some fancy stuff, but some of it is still broken. Also the email field for guests appears again, I'll fix it eventually.
Introducing Battle Suite 4.0 RC2
October 24, 2017

Embers // Afterlife Fantasy

Welcome to the first day of your new life. Embers is an afterlife fantasy cyberpunk RPG, running since 2006, first under the name War Chain, and then under the name Tamashii no Chikai, originally as a Bleach RP. Some Bleach influence still remains, but it is all presented differently and features new elements. The recent 2016 reboot under the name Embers follows a very similar standard and focus that War Chain and Tamashii no Chikai did, and we hope Embers will grow into its own free of its fandom ties. Here's to 157,000 more posts!
Mature themes, half the board is gay. Not recommended for bigots or individuals under 16 years of age. You must be 18 or older to gain access to the mature boards.

Seekers are "bad" human souls; we use this term loosely, because they're not really bad, necessarily. Souls that remain in the living world too long, either due to negligence, or unwillingness to move on on their part, or souls that fall to deep hatred or despair, or are consumed by a seeker, become themselves seekers.

History

Seekers are somewhat of an upgrade from the base soul state; typically, they have some influence over the physical world, but not a lot. Seekers have a greater influence, and can forcibly remove souls from their body. So long as the silver thread does not break, this soul can be put back with no long term ill effects, but often it will break, and the given person is immediately deceased.

All seekers wear a mask, concealing who they used to be, as they have lost their sense of self to the driving need to fill the void becoming a seeker left behind in their heart. They do this by cannibalising other souls.

There is a such thing as a demi-seeker. These types of seeker are bound either to a person or a place, rather than being free-ranging, because of a strong attachment to either. This causes them to evolve into a seeker very slowly, and it may take several months to years before they become a seeker on their own. However, they are difficult to find; demi-seekers that are attached to a place are chained to that place, and it makes it difficult for them to flee when another seeker comes after them, but they only appear when someone gets too close to their territory. Demi-seekers attached to a person are usually much easier to find.

Because of the nature of what a seeker is, they tend to have residual memories from other souls they have consumed, and may forget such things as their name, where they come from, any family they may have had, and so on. Some have another soul's memories in place of these, but some just have a giant blank nothingness where there should be memory.

Evolution

Seekers evolve as they gain more souls in the mass that makes them up.

Omega seekers are the bottom rung. Between newly created seeker and evolving the first time, omegas generally aren't very intelligent, highly bloodthirsty and chaotic, but usually not very powerful.

Gamma seekers are the next stage up. After consuming enough souls to do so, a seeker will evolve into a nonsensical mass of consciousness. This mass is usually very powerful, but not very bright, and only capable of basic energy attacks. Gammas are usually very large, too, generally in the form of some kind of animal.

Beta seekers are what a seeker becomes when a single soul manages to dominate the rest of them within a gamma seeker, triggering another evolution. Betas may be smaller than a gamma, but they are still fairly large in size, and typically mostly in the shape of an animal, not always the same one they were as a theta.

Alpha seekers are the next stage, when a beta reaches a strength level high enough to trigger another evolutionary jump. Alphas are much smarter, capable of tactical thought, even emotions and reasoning, and are much smaller, and more human-like. The smaller and more human-like they are, the smarter and stronger an alpha will tend to be. Alphas do not usually retain a whole lot of their animal traits, but some will retain a few.

Betas and alphas can usually survive evolution into a diablo without dying. A particularly impressive gamma may be able to, but 99 times out of 100, they die instead.

Powers and Abilities

Seekers have a wide variety of powers and abilities, and most of them aren't really common amongst one another. This makes them relatively dangerous, sometimes, as if the given seeker has the right combination of powers, they can prove rather difficult for a member of Valkyrie to take out.

Relations with Other Races

Most will attack and kill a seeker on sight. It's a good plan. Seekers usually will not give you a choice, unless they are very intelligent.
