Embers // Afterlife Fantasy

Welcome to the first day of your new life. Embers is an afterlife fantasy cyberpunk RPG, running since 2006, first under the name War Chain, and then under the name Tamashii no Chikai, originally as a Bleach RP. Some Bleach influence still remains, but it is all presented differently and features new elements. The recent 2016 reboot under the name Embers follows a very similar standard and focus that War Chain and Tamashii no Chikai did, and we hope Embers will grow into its own free of its fandom ties. Here's to 157,000 more posts!
Mature themes, half the board is gay. Not recommended for bigots or individuals under 16 years of age. You must be 18 or older to gain access to the mature boards.

Krystal / Livian, Metella
« on: Oct 19, 2017, 12:52AM »
She is a very old soul, one that has seen perhaps too much. Despite her regal outward appearance, and the occasionally quite deceptive delicate impression she gives others, Metella is not a stranger to hardship, nor is she new to this war thing. In fact, one of the most famous slave rebellions in the living world she had her hands in, many of the more defining wars and battles in Asgard she may have been a part of, even many among the Kazanic Courts, and to say the least, she is rather a brilliant tactical mind.

Her personality is often quite dominant; Metella does not roll over for anyone, and while she may, at least for a time, be pacified with playing follower, it typically does not last very long. Metella has her own ideas of what should be, of how things should be done, the direction any one thing should go, and she doesn't tend to have trouble voicing these ideas. She isn't entirely bull-headed and incapable of taking criticism, however, as she readily listens to any such one may have, but don't think your thoughts hold too much weight for her - Metella does what she thinks is the most viable and profitable option, based upon the choices she is given and the situation she is in, and often this means ignoring the advice of others. She will, and has, even ignored her own family members in favour of what she believes to be the best path. She does try to do the best for as many people as possible, but unfortunately, in every situation, there is someone that gets the short end of the stick.

While generous, and kindly to most, Metella is very obviously still a highly independent individual, and two thousand years of time later, she's learned to let go of relationships and situations that don't grow her, serve her, or make her happy. Some could consider her somewhat snobbish in that respect, as she doesn't give her friendship to just anyone, but she expects similar treatment from others. Relationships of mutual benefit are far more sustainable in the long run, and if her presence is somehow displeasing, she'd much rather the other party break things off cleanly. She is known to be terribly kind to those that are less fortunate than her, and sometimes will go out of her way in attempt to help said less fortunate.

Metella is fair, but occasionally rather harsh. In some ways, however, she is perhaps not harsh enough. It is an interesting balance; but you can generally take heart in the fact that, if she is being a hard-ass, there's a very good reason why, so you'd do well to consider why that may be.

Friends
Metella rarely goes out of her way to form friendships nowadays. Between her own personal goals, and running Valkyrie, she has very little time for friends. Still, what friends she does have do get her time and her attention on occasion, but don't be terribly miffed if it's rather common to go over a week without seeing her. She isn't entirely unapproachable, if you're willing to look beyond the leader-like tough exterior, and she can be quite compassionate and supportive. However, she is very slow to trust, perhaps more so than she was before she died, as time has taken its toll.

Enemies
A very common trend with Livias, it is rare they do not have some enemy of some form. There are probably many that do not care for her, even if it is only a very superficial dislike, or perhaps even issue that is taken with her manner of leadership. Metella gives not one single iota of a fuck, and she has far more important things to be doing than bothering with enemies and supposed rivals.

Lovers
Metella is heterosexual, but is rather polyamorous. She had two male consorts for most of her life, both died about four hundred years ago; she does know where one was reincarnated, and will eventually find the second. If you'd like to attempt to sidle on in there, good luck, but just keep in mind, it can take quite a bit of work to make your way from friend to lover, as she does not make this jump on a whim.

Valkyrie: First / Welcome to First
« on: Oct 23, 2016, 04:45PM »
Part I: Welcome
"First Division is the pillar holding the rest of Valkyrie aloft. If we sway, lose balance, or hesitate, we could very well risk the rest of the Divisions. The standards of this Division are high, and some may find them a little too much. This is okay. Just do your best, and keep the rest of Valkyrie in mind at all times."

Part II: Rules & Expectations
"First thing's first; this Division is held to and should exemplify the highest standard of Valkyrie conduct. If, at any point, you do not meet these standards, you will be transferred without warning. We set the bar of expectation and conduct for the rest of Valkyrie, and lead other Divisions' officers through example. You may not always make the right decision, you may not always have the best or most sound response, but if you put in your best effort, you will do well here.

Secondarily, each Division officer should be capable of handling and directing themselves, as well as managing their own time without assistance from commanding officers. This should remain true whether you are being directly supervised or not. A lot of First Division's work will be unsupervised work with other Divisions. If your higher-ranked peers consistently need to tell you what you should be doing, you will find this Division difficult and overwhelming.

Any rule-breaking, rash decision, poor judgement, selfishness, bad manner, or other such behavioural complication, reflects poorly not only on the rest of the First Division, but also on me, and will be dealt with swiftly."

Part III: Meet the Captain
"My name is Metella Livian, though I was born as Livia Andronica Metella. At the age of 16, I became a gladiator trainer in the Roman Republic era, and spent much of my later teenage years working with gladiators and partaking in the gladiator games. I freed over 6,000 slaves during this time-frame, many of which had earned their freedom from me in the arena by replacing their purchase price and a little extra. My family owned around 8,000 farms, several hundred miles worth of farmland, either vineyards for production of wine and spirit, or for food production. We shared our surplus with those less fortunate than we.

At the age of 22, I, with the help of my sisters, my parents, and some dear family friends and cousins, rose against the already fraying Roman Republic in rebellion. We gathered an army of over 120,000 slaves across the Italian peninsula, fighting the Roman legions on relatively even grounds for our collective freedom. Many of them were, unfortunately, captured and crucified over the course of the two year rebellion, but by the end of it, the Roman Senate had met their end and we had defeated three of their best generals and been joined by Roman legions whose soldiers felt more loyalty to their commanders than to the state. The Republic collapsed, and gave way to the Livian Empire, now called the Roman Empire in history books.

This event is now called Spartacus' war. While Spartacus played a heavy part in it, and I don't know what I'd have done without his expertise and brilliance, I led that rebellion, and I saw Rome destroyed. Slavery was abolished as soon as the Livian Empire took foot-hold. Regulations were put in place to prevent the gentes from going at each other and ruining everything once again, social standards and norms were reformed, women gained more and more political power. We released many of the territories Rome before us had gained, and we lived peacefully. And then I died.

I later helped establish Valkyrie, and soon became its first, and still current, leader. I have seen, and defeated, many an enemy, and some may find me a bit intimidating, yet I am only Justice's humble servant; but sometimes Justice can be harsh and cruel."

Part V: Mission Guidelines
"The First Division rarely ever takes missions on solo. Primarily, we act as backup for any Division that may need it, offering our stability, forethought, and experience to others. When you attend another Division's mission, remember to uphold the First Division's honour. You are what they will look to for guidance. Lead by example, keep a level head, don't act too rashly, and consider your options before you decide on one."

Part VI: Division Events
"Each month, we hold a banquet party; every officer of the Division is welcome to partake in the festivities, and take the chance to mingle with their fellow officers and get to know them. This is on a different day every month, so remember to check the Division Bulletin Board. It will be announced at least a week beforehand. If you are meant to be on duty during this time, you'll be allotted two hours during which you may attend if you so choose.

We typically partake in festivities for holidays, and we also allow officers a chance to ask for personal leave, to attend the cultural festivals across Asgard. You do not have to be a part of that culture to gain time off for them, but choose wisely, as you are only allowed five cultural festival leaves a year.

In October, we have a celebration for ancestors; you may take part in this celebration any way you feel comfortable, we have lantern releases, masquerades, harvest festivals, and banquets to partake in. In December, we have gift-giving, and will put up a large tree that is decorated by the entirety of Valhalla in the courtyard for the month's duration. It is taken down in January. We also have New Years celebrations and festivals with games, banquets, and fireworks shows from January to February.

Keep in mind, members of other Divisions may partake in our festivities from time to time. You are expected to be welcoming and courteous to them."

2016 / Of an Era Long Lost
« on: Oct 20, 2016, 03:27AM »
She hadn't spent very long following him; only about a month ago did she figure out who he was, and before she spoke to him for any substantial length of time, she did want to be sure he was who she thought he was. And really, she wasn't entirely sure why, either. She should just leave him alone, let him live his new life in peace, without her interfering with it. There were various warnings and regulations in place that sought to prevent things like this, and there were reasons why. But, perhaps, she sought something comforting, familiar; Alcides was gone, Jasper was mad and still hadn't come home yet ( and she dared not try and force him ), and Axelius was right here, or so she thought. But the more time she spent around him, the more she was sure, this was Axelius. Funny enough, he had a very similar name, too. She wondered, distantly, if most reincarnations were named similarly to one another. Axelius' was the only one she'd found, thus far.

She had Suyis, at least. She had her parents, and most of her siblings. Metella should be happy, but... it was easier to think, around him. Easier to focus on mundane things, and often she found herself doing paperwork here, within range of his spiritual pressure. Even this weak, it felt very similar to Axelius'; mostly warm, like sitting close to a fireplace, with just a hint of spark, a slight crackling under the skin. It'd been so long since she'd sensed it, she almost didn't recognise it. Well, her brain didn't; but her heart did.

Metella wasn't sure what she wanted, any more. At first, she thought she just wanted to know, but now that she did, she still found herself slipping this way. She'd memorised his work schedule, and timed herself this visit, to be here just before he got off work. He bused tables at a local cafe; it seemed all at the same time, both very fitting for him, and too mundane, but everyone started somewhere, and this one was young. Too young for her to be hanging around, but, he still made the paperwork easier to deal with. She'd tucked herself off to the side, scribbling at said paperwork, as she waited. It wasn't terribly chilly a day, but it wasn't all that warm, either, and she'd somewhat bundled up to at least fit in to some extent. She thought he knew she was dead, though; at least, technically. There was life on the other side, but it wasn't the same life, that was all.

He'd come, sooner or later. In the meantime, besides doing paperwork, maybe she'd reconsider a few of her life choices.
