Embers // Afterlife Fantasy

Welcome to the first day of your new life. Embers is an afterlife fantasy cyberpunk RPG, running since 2006, first under the name War Chain, and then under the name Tamashii no Chikai, originally as a Bleach RP. Some Bleach influence still remains, but it is all presented differently and features new elements. The recent 2016 reboot under the name Embers follows a very similar standard and focus that War Chain and Tamashii no Chikai did, and we hope Embers will grow into its own free of its fandom ties. Sarcastic, crass, and very loud, it can be awfully hard to like Gage. The good news is, he knows this, and isn't at all surprised when people decide they dislike him more than anything. Fine, you won't be the first, or the last. In any case, being as he's hard to get along with, he honestly probably clashes with most people than anything. He's pretty blunt, not afraid of speaking his mind, whether he's right or wrong, and will usually rather quickly tell you to fuck off. And very much mean it. The thing is, he sounds like he wants to get in a fight with you, but, he's just being honest. The problem with that is, most people can't handle the level of honest that he is, and it tends to lead to conflict more than anything else.

Still, he is a bit calmer than he used to be. Now that he is figuring out how to be a person instead of a weapon, he's not quite as rough-edged as he used to be. He does still speak primarily Sarcasm, instead of English, but in all things, it helps to remember that he means well. He may not always have any luck with that meaning well thing, but he does always mean well. He doesn't ask for permission, or forgiveness, he just does what he thinks is right and deals with the consequences as they come. Gage actually has got a bit of an altruistic streak; it's hard to find, but if you really need somebody, he's there. Maybe with a beer and a sarcastic quip or two, but he's there.

Truth be told about it, he's probably got a lot of internal issues to work out. He knows this, at least to some extent, because he can tell by other people's reactions that his thought processes are a bit off in certain aspects. He's learning, but it's hard to shake off that instinctive seeker mentality, or at least it is for Gage. If he tried a little harder, watched his words and reactions better, maybe it'd be easier, but you know, Gage is a really impulsive guy. He reacts. He doesn't always think, he just reacts. There are very few situations (primarily, it's just people) that can make him think instead of jump his guns, but one thing he'll never do is apologise for who he is. If you don't like him, you know where the door is and how to get the fuck out of his presence, because Gage won't change for you if that's what you think is going to happen. You can't tame the panther. Only the panther tames the panther. Don't mix it up.

Friends
He's not really used to having real friends and honest camaraderie, he's not used to people getting interested in him for who he is, so he'll take care of his friends. And lord have mercy if you fuck with them, because Gage will not.

Now, admittedly, he's very abrasive and sarcastic and hard to deal with, a lot of the time. He's also still learning - there are many bits and pieces of operating like a person instead of a weapon that he has yet to really grasp. The finer nuances of emotion really confuse him still, even now, but he's trying, and if you can be patient with him, eventually, he'll figure it out. He gets better every day, and he is putting in real tangible effort at getting better, so it's not like he's pretending to try and then not trying. It's just, he's slower to grasp new concepts, if you would, sort through the maelstrom that he actually is, and make sense of it all. He's far more likely to react to anything that gets an emotional response with anger, even if that's not what he feels, because he does understand anger.

It's just a matter of being patient and giving him the room to grow.

Enemies
I'm sure he's got plenty, but he is trying not to get into trouble, so I don't think he'll purposely start anything. Honestly, if he had a rival of any kind, he may actually reciprocate this, depending on who it was, he'd actually kind of encourage it.

Lovers
Ah man. Aight, he is bi, leans toward guys, has a thing for several different people and will probably end up in a poly, probably a pretty messy and confusing one. Don't squint too hard. But, he's actually a pretty sweet guy as a lover, albeit unapologetic and blunt about it. He is also relatively possessive but you can have a life, he's not that level of possessive. He just likes to remind his lovers that he really does care, in his very graceless flail-y sort of way. Eh. It's actually getting less graceless these days. It's really hard to question how he really feels about you, because he tells you, all the time, without ever using words.

If you can handle him being poly, you can attempt to get him into another relationship, but remember, organic evolution. Good thing.

Character Extras / A Dragon in a Cage
« on: Jul 13, 2015, 04:18AM »
Living World; Tokyo, Japan
July 15
The days had gone by relatively quietly. Several different people had wandered by since then, pestering her about one thing or another, but mostly just seeing if she was okay. It was endearing, kind of. And on the bright side, as far as she knew, Ichimaru-Taichou hadn't outright murdered anyone, though he seemed in the mood for it. Not that it was surprising. Ichimaru-Taichou was almost always in the mood to murder someone, so, Takiko couldn't call it a new thing, by any means. More of a pretty repetitive pattern. He hadn't taken it out on anyone else, either, so there was that to be thankful for, but Gin wasn't really that kind of guy anyway.

In the meantime, she spent her time cleaning Zuko's apartment and making dinner a lot. Homey domestic crap, it was kind of foreign after this long. But she didn't mind it, and it certainly gave her something to do besides pace around like a caged animal. Hoping, praying, even, that Kouga would continue to neatly miss her. But, well. Luck didn't always hold.

And it wasn't really surprising when, one day, she looked up from tidying the living room to realise his reiatsu signature was awfully close by. She stilled, hoping it'd go away, but it was getting closer instead. There were hundreds of humans over here, if they got into a shit fight right here the death toll would be insane. A slight start, and she shot for her Invisor and Jishin, leaning against the wall in the hall closet, but before she could get there, Kouga was right there. Apparently, he didn't believe in windows, because one of Zuko's windows was now shattered. ... great.

"You're awfully hard to find sometimes, you know?"
Freezing, rather instantly, and jerkily backing up. "[takiko]That was kind of intentional,[/takiko]" breathed.
"The hell you doing in one of those, anyway?"
"[takiko]Hiding from you, the hell you think?[/takiko]"
A loud slap, and she crashed into the hallway wall. "Don't... talk to me, like that." It wasn't really... a request, or a command, just kind of a statement. If you went by his tone and only his tone. "C'mon out of there, Taki-chan. We have a new order of business."
"[takiko]And what's that?[/takiko]" Oi, her jaw hurt. Fussing with it, a little, to give herself something else to focus on.

"You'll have to pop out and see."
Of course. Couldn't make this easy at all. No, we wouldn't want that. Some mental warring, and some part of her thought this was a really bad idea, but if she pushed him and he flared his reiatsu, he'd flatten this entire building. First and foremost, Takiko was a goddamn soul reaper, and this was their job. They came first. Finally, she sighed, reaching into a pocket and popping a soul candy.

"[takiko]Better?[/takiko]"
Kouga grinned. "Much. You're prettier like this anyway," he decided, reaching out and taking her hand, half-dragging her out the window he broke. And then they both shot off with Shunpo. It was probably Lady Luck on her side, but they happened to pass Grimmjow, just finishing off a Hollow - and given he didn't recognise the signature of the other Shinigami with Taki, he instantly followed, not even thinking about it. It took a few seconds, but eventually, Kouga noticed they had company.

"Hm. Friend of yours?" he asked.
Takiko shrugged. But it was kind of hard to miss the tenseness. And he knew the truth anyway. One moment, they were going along, and the next, he'd shoved her behind him and turned on Grimmjow. She could hardly even keep up with the blows exchanged, but it was kind of obvious Grimmjow had the upper hand in a hand to hand skirmish.
"You're more trouble than I thought you'd be."
"[grimmjow]Yeah, kinda my fuckin' job, asshole. Let'er go and I'll leave you alone.[/grimmjow]"
"Oh I don't think you're in any position to be bargaining." Kouga raised Muramasa, and Takiko let out a squeal.
"[takiko]Don't![/takiko]" Shit, what would Muramasa even do to an Arrancar anyway -
"Oh? Heh. I thought he was a friend of yours."

Fortunately, the slight distraction managed to allow Grimmjow to get a good kick in. Right in the nuts - just like he said he would. Unfortunately, Kouga reacted instinctively, making a fist out of his free hand and slamming it into the side of Grimmjow's face. The side that had his fragments. An awful cracking noise, as his fragments split into a million little pieces, and he fell.

"[takiko]GRIMMJOW![/takiko]" A lunge, as she went to follow his nosedive, but Kouga caught her around the neck with an arm and pulled her the other way. "[takiko]LET GO, GRIMMJOW, KOUGA LET GO, DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT COULD KILL HIM -[/takiko]"
"And it'll be his own fucking fault for getting in my way!"
"[takiko]THIS ENTIRE THING IS YOUR OWN FUCKING FAULT, LET GO![/takiko]"
"I'D SUGGEST YOU DON'T TEST ME!" Tightening his grip so hard it was difficult to breathe. And back this way again.

The only bright side was, he did have an Invisor. Which right about now, was probably having a mechanical seizure due to his reiatsu levels plummeting suddenly. He should be okay - he'd be all right, Taki, his Division was watching the monitors like hawks and they were his so they'd definitely react super fast to his vitals falling through the floor. If only because this was Grimmjow and he never got himself damaged that bad. Despite knowing it was a bad idea, and knowing somebody would get to him, likely, because his Invisor was probably frantically screaming his coordinates, she still struggled the whole way. Eventually, they stopped somewhere she didn't... even really recognise, and Kouga threw her to the grass.

"How do you tap into it?" he demanded.
"[takiko]What?[/takiko]" Tap into what...
"The nexus. There is a spiritual power nexus right here, how do you tap into it?"
For a moment, Takiko was silent, but he made an annoyed noise and she jumped slightly. "[takiko]I honestly don't know.[/takiko]"
"Don't bullshit me, Takiko. The Kuchikis manage the Great Archives, your family knows everything, tell me how you tap into it."
"[takiko]I said I don't know, and I wasn't lying! No one knows how to use it because no one's been stupid enough to tr -[/takiko]" Another slap, another yelp. That time was harder, and it probably left a mark.
"Then we'll sit here until you fucking figure it out."
... well this was going to be a long day.

2015 / Are You Fucking Kidding Me
« on: Jul 11, 2015, 12:01AM »
Okay. Ow. Ooooow ow. Yes, she was standing, to be fair, but she was literally covered in blood, and 99% of it was hers, and it was painful to walk, and breathe, and stand, but hobbling her way this way, toward the little blip on her senses that was Zuko. Figured she'd just lay low for a bit, and hide in a gigai, and pretend she was his... sister or something, who knew, and not... no.

And if Kouga came this way, she'd... run. Run like a madwoman with the hounds of hell snapping at her heels because she wasn't getting Zuko caught up in dealing with Kouga. No. That was her problem, not his. Besides, if she could barely stand up to him, then Zuko wouldn't last .3 seconds.

Up this way. ... aaaaand... this one? Yeah. Kicking the bottom of the door. "Sparky. Sparkmaesterrrr. A little help pleeee - EEE!" And she lost her balance, hit the door, and slid to the floor, smearing blood across his door. ... oops. Oh man, dizzy. So dizzy.

2015 / Stupid Hollows
« on: Jun 06, 2015, 06:51AM »
Well, likely, it wasn't here any more. It had been earlier, and that was frustrating, because it seemed like she'd just missed it. On the bright side, it didn't seem to have gotten the kid, so, before it was too late, she went ahead and did Konso for the kid-spirit. Poor thing. Died in a car crash and had no idea where his mum was. Probably already eaten by a Hollow or on the other side.

Sometimes, this management of the spirits thing, it was a pain.

"COME OUT, COME OUT, WHEREVER YOU AAAAAARE! YUMMY TASTY SHINIGAMI!" ... just thought she'd try it. ... nothing, of course, came of it. Usually didn't. So, Taki groaned and fell onto the sidewalk. Kind of weird being here during the day, when the living people were all out and about. She could barely sense them at all, mind - most of them hadn't near enough spiritual pressure for her to be able to kind of make them out, so at the moment, they weren't even a mass of dots, it was more like a blurred lump of energy.

... cept, that one stood out. Hmm. Red. And she stood, and shuffled over to him, wandering around him in a circle. Weird... "Ey, Jishin, ya think he can see me?"
[takiko]Maybe,[/takiko] Jishin replied. [takiko]It's kind of rude not to introduce yourself, if he does, by the way.[/takiko]
"Bleh, formalities. I don't bother with those." No, but really. "And anyway, guess it's not important." Flopping back down, not sitting just kneeling. Yeah.

Mostly waiting to see if that Hollow would come back, before she went back to the Seireitei. And then the Hollow sensors went nuts again, with her on the wrong side.

2014 / So About This Thing...
« on: Oct 20, 2014, 03:07AM »
August 26, 2001

Okaaay... between Suifeng and Rangiku pestering, and then of course, Atsuya pestering, and finally, this little deal they'd made, it was probably time to go this way. Because there was a Jushiro over here, and... well, maybe they should have a talk. If nothing else, they hadn't spoken much since she'd come back, and that was a little sad.

So, she meandered that way, headed for his office. Ah... pausing in the doorway, and tapping on the frame a bit. Yes. "Now a bad time?" Always a good thing to ask first. Lots of things tended to go wrong in the Seireitei. Ha.

2014 / Long Time No See

February 9

Hmm, over here, someplace... let's see... ah, that way. Following the Jushiro reiatsu, yes, because... because she could. And, besides, seeing how he was doing, that was always good. ... okay, she missed him. Mrr. That in and of itself presented a problem, a tiny bit of one, at least, but, we weren't going to worry about it. Friends, friends was good. Friends was really good, actually, it was good enough. Yes.

Bounce bounce bounce. At least she was in a good mood? Ah, there. Smiling, and waving, yeah, because, he might be busy, and if he was busy, she could come back later, or something. Pretty much everyone was busy, really, so, this wouldn't be surprising in the least. Ah, should have probably thought about that, you know, before coming over here, but... too late now? Ahaha.

... haaa, fail Yoru-chan... faaaail...
